Created this new thread, we can gather posts that speak about the hypothetical -500.....
Once Airbus launches it we could just rename the thread.
There were some other articles too, where it was reporting Airbus saying "it is not ~if~ we launch it but a matter of ~when~".

IMO the main point timing a A220-500 is production capacity. Today the A220 production capacity, about 4 to 5 frames a month, is hard pressed to produce the ordered -100 and -300 versions in a timely manner. If one looks at the A220-500 as a supplemental frame to the A320, it could be produced when A220 production reaches 10 to 15 frames a month. If one looks at the A220-500 replacing the A320, production capacity should be 30+ frames a month for the A220-500 alone, perhaps 45 frames a month for the A220 lineup. I do not see how Airbus could reach those numbers in the near future.

Perhaps assembly capacity in the FALs, but production has not yet passed 5 a month. 36 frames delivered in this year's first 10 month. With a backlog of over 400 frames.
