While it doesn't mean they need the A380, at least Air Austral now is making money Unfortunately the current management is still trying to dispose the A380 order. A final decision is expected in the 2nd half of the year.

Unfortunately the current management is still trying to dispose the A380 order. A final decision is expected in the 2nd half of the year. I suppose the slots have been placed far forward (or completely deleted) by Airbus, so the only speckle would be that they again have to cancel an order.

The biggest issue is the deposit money, Air Austral made some 30 million prepayments and they don't want to lose that money. If they cancel, the money is gone. Maybe Airbus will swap it to a few A350s?

Just to have some idea: their fleet: ATR 72-212A 2x B737-800 2x 777-200LR 1x 777-300ER 3x That is it. I doubt they can fill up the A380. It is just interesting what the swap will be. Also from "wiki" (OK I know... .but...) In April 2012, Air Austral was unable to pay for a new 777-200LR awaiting delivery. The company is looking to sell on the plane instead of taking delivery. Following this development, Air Austral announced in May 2012 that it would defer or cancel its order for 2 Airbus A380s, with a decision to be made by the end of June 2012. and following... centreforaviation.com/analysis/european-woes-force-changes-for-the-better-at-indian-ocean-carriers-with-air-austral-the-latest-74647i.e. those 3x777-200ER are now away..... We "almost knew" this order is moot - just interesting what will happen

Those are interesting numbers but let's have a look at today flights
PARIS-Reunion UU - 77W AF - 77W SS - 744 or A332 alternates UU - 77W
Up to that DZA - Reunion UU - 77L
CAI - Reunion AF 77L
Those ale all WB flights (ignoring short HOPs made by WB on multicity trips). OK - If they would replace all their 77W with a pair of A380 it might work under the condition they would be able to steal some customers from SS/AF ?
Is it realistic ?
We will see.

A decision is expected by October. Well, that never happened. As of now Air Austral is leasing two more 777's, which makes me believe they will cancel the A380-order: ALC Press Release
