Airbus does not sell engines for the A380. They are bought (or leased or rented or...) by the customer direct from the manufacturer.

I'm only confused about the article if they are now in any case realted to the Doric MOA about the 20 A380 at the Paris Air Show. I believe this has nothing to do with the Doric agreement. Those A380s are slated for delivery between 2016-2021. This article appears to focus on the upcoming EK deliveries.

I believe it's for either existing planes or new deliveries arriving soon.

Thank you for the link, Walter. The interesting document you linked to also illustrates the financial frameworks used by Doric : they set up a special purpose vehicle which buys an aircraft and leases it out to an airline ; then Doric sells the shares to international investors and retains the management of the company. One of the advantages of that framework is that it is compliant with islamic finance principles, as no interest is collected by investors. This makes the fundraising easier.

I believe it's for either existing planes or new deliveries arriving soon. Thanks It's always so confusing with A380 orders. I remember the debate around the Emirates order of 30 planes. Was it confirmation of an existing order, or a new order? Wasn't helped of course by the disbelief that one operator would actually commit to 90 planes. One thing's for certain - we'll never be certain until it actually happens
