Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines is in the final negotiation stages for 21 brand new A330 aircraft with several lessors as part of its fleet campaign.

Izham said the 21 aircraft was aimed for entry into service by the second quarter of 2024

Reuters: Malaysia Airlines to acquire 20 Airbus A330neos - sources

PARIS/SYDNEY, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Malaysia Airlines is poised to announce a deal next Monday to acquire 20 Airbus (AIR.PA) A330neo wide-body jets, industry sources said on Wednesday.

The deal to replace 15 A330-300s and six A330-200s is likely to involve leasing around half of the upgraded A330neo planes and purchasing the rest directly from Airbus, said two of the sources, who were not authorised to speak publicly

Nothing is done.
I don't want to be the partypooper here but it's only an MOU. MOU's are know to vanish into thin air.
So I'll wait for the signing of the firm order before I become enthusiastic.

You are right Peter, still a MOU is not completely nothing. And in this case i belive that we will hear more until the end of the year. (+- a few weeks)

Additional information from RR:

The Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has today signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus, Rolls-Royce and Avolon for the acquisition of 20 new Airbus A330neo, powered exclusively by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. A total of 10 aircraft are directly purchased from Airbus with a back-to-back sale and leaseback arrangement with Avolon, while the remaining 10 are leased directly from Avolon.

The A330neos will replace the Group’s existing A330ceo fleet and, upon delivery, will gradually operate in its existing network throughout Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East. The transaction also includes 20 A330neo purchase rights to provide flexibility for the Group to realise future growth opportunities. The aircraft are scheduled to be delivered to MAG starting from the third quarter of 2024 through to 2028.

Interestingly Airbus did not mention the purchase rights.

As MH wants to have at least 55 widebody aircraft by 2028, they should exercise 20 options for a330neo:
Group managing director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said MAG has options on the table for the remaining 20 and will make that decision in the first quarter of 2024. "If we follow or remain steadfast with our long-term business plan until 2030, we should have at least 55 widebody aircraft by 2028,"
