That's a very strange up-gauge. F from 4 to 8, J from 24 to 70, W from 48 to 0 and Y from 208 to 428 for a total from 284 to 506 passengers.
Nearly double the seats and a total loss of premium economy.

CZ has such problems to find suitable routes for its A380s that whey have an opportunity, they jump at it no matter configuration issues !

Remember, the government there has a LOT to say in airline regulations, nothing like a deregulation in many other parts of the world....

I think the project the government blocked was Beijing-Paris, the reason being direct competition between CZ and Air China. As was stated upthread, Air China does not operate a Beijing-Amsterdam route.

CZ does not fly to Paris. I think it was more about CZ attracting too many passengers away from CA, simply because of the A380 on the route via AMS, with easy and multiple connections to Paris and even London (both CA destinations)

No, sorry peter, CZ's A380 purchase was entirely predicated on CZ being allowed to operate international flights from Beijing, mainly the CDG route. Air China lobbied against that project and prevailed. The only offer the government made to CZ was a joint operation between the two companies, but Air China killed this project by demanding CZ to lease out the aircraft to them.
CZ was thus left without any reasonable destination to fly its A380s to, and has been losing money ever since. I hope the Amsterdam route is confirmed and they are successful.

Okay, we agree it was about flying the A380 on international routes from Beijing
