Today, April 09, 2013, Turkish Airlines committed to another 70 737's (MAX-8, MAX-9, 800NG) and 25 more options for MAX-8. This order will be firmed up in the near future.

Nice livery for Batik first B737 which is another new airline from the Lion Air Group. This is the airlines first airplane. They'll eventually get a few 787's as well. Batik PK-LBG by Drewski2112, on Flickr

Facebook Airbus FanClub: Breaking News :Next-Generation 737-900ER Crash Boeing 737-900ER Lion Air Plane crashes into the sea in Bali The aircraft, thought to be a Lion Air plane, was carrying 172 passengers. Facebook Flightradar: Lion Air flight JT904 from Bandung to Denpasar (Bali) has slid off the runway and crashed into the water at Denpasar Airport in Indonesia. Reports from Indonesian media say that all passengers have survived the crash and been relocated to a nearby hospital. This is probably the flight on Flightradar24 just before landing www.flightradar24.com/2013-04-13/06:50/12x/LNI904/1227ee4

Aircraft registration is PK-LKS (a -800, not -900) and this one is just 2 months old.

Facebook Flightradar: Lion Air flight JT904 from Bandung to Denpasar (Bali) has slid off the runway and crashed into the water at Denpasar Airport in Indonesia. It looks more like the aircraft crashed short of the runway 9. There are rumors that aircraft reported mechanical problems before crashing. It will be certainly be interesting to see the cause of the accident and it certainly reminds me of TK1951 and 8u-771. avherald.com/h?article=460aeabb&opt=0

This incident reinforces my concern about this upstart's ambitious expansion plans, whether it has sufficient infrastructure and training programs in place to handle huge fleet operations. I feel both Boeing and Airbus should have been a little more cautious dealing with this airline. It's bad press if your customer has to write off a frame only a few weeks after being in the headlines for placing a record order. Also, more than anything, this would have broader implications on aircraft financing and insurance especially considering how this airline is heavily dependent on credit for their new orders.

Let's wait fore more information before passing judgment on the airline or its pilots. Lots of circumstances may have contributed to this .... (Ditching ? Hard landing into the sea ? Crash ?)
