i like the old fashioned black nose Was there ever a technical reason why older aircraft were mostly, if not always, had their nose cone painted black? Like isn't black supposed to be a little better at absorbing radar waves?

Like isn't black supposed to be a little better at absorbing radar waves? I don't know. I remember LH to have the entire nose-cone in black, whereas Northwest and JAL only had a "little" black tip. EDIT: On 747's

Rumor: One of the final LH 747s is expected to get some retro-colours with classic blue line along the windows. One of the original posts here detailing it, and containing some pictures from Lufthansa themselves. Also, Woody's Aweroimages has some good pics posted today as well.

It is interesting how the Lufthansa retro and current livery are almost the same - just blue line over the windows and slightly thinner lines in the LOGO...

Also, whilst it's not shown on the retro 748, the old livery had a polished metal lower fuselage and engines (on the 748, grey is used instead).

I meant that if you look at similarly old liveries of most other airlines and current the changes are often HUGE - not in this case.
Somehow the Lufthansa look is the same through dozens of years.
