Welcome back Dirk a3801000!! nice find! It seems EK will increase capacity soon on the DXB-BOS route already from 77L to 77W, hopefully next step would be an A380

guess it really depends when those 3 gates will be ready. Otherwise we might see double daily 77Ws before...

In the last few weeks I used the new A380 ready gate at Perth airport (gate 1, bay 51) for my flights to and from Hong Kong. The gate is currently being used by Cathay Pacific's Airbus A330s for the twice daily flights. The departure area was inadequate for the number of A330 passengers present on the night (my flight appeared to be full) so airport management are going to have to address this before A380 flights can be accommodated. It appears construction is still underway near the Emirates lounge which is next to the gate so the space issue may yet be resolved. Another problem I encountered was that 2 flights of stairs had to be descended to get to the boarding level rendering the wheels on cabin bags useless and greatly slowing down the flow of passengers to the aircraft as not everyone is good with stairs. If that setup is to remain Emirates will have to commence boarding much earlier to ensure its A380s depart on time. There is no lift near the gate for people who are infirm or with small children. The ramp style used at Hong Kong is more efficient for traffic flow but I don't know if that would possible to fit in Perth airport's cramped overall design. I'm also wondering how long the Qantas lounge will remain open (it's next to the Emirates lounge) now that there are no regular international flights from Perth using Qantas aircraft.
