I just hope the order of Porter will get through.. Fabien I have mixed feelings about that. It is all about increasing traffic on an airport situated near a residential area and close to the center of the city. In general, I don't think that airports belong in such neighbourhoods, however convenient it might be for businessmen, but I must say that I don't know Toronto ...

If Bombardier and PW keep their noise promises, it shouldn't be a problem I think. As of the moment, those turboprops are hardly audible even though they appear quite close to you. They fly right by my workplace. In any case YTZ is no more worse or better than YYZ, IMO, with respect to the proximity to residential buildings. YTZ YYZ

Possible CSeries order by Easyjet at the PAS. Bombardier: EasyJet veut acheter des CSeries (Article in French) - Easyjet's fleet replacement order will not just be from either Airbus or Boeing, but will also include the CSeries. - Sub-150 seater needed for routes with low passenger demand. - Order could be officially announced during the PAS. - Also talks about an Air Canada order for 100+ planes with the possible inclusion of the CSeries; to be announced in the coming months.

Quite possibly true, but teasing one's suitors is an old trick to extract concessions from all of them ...

I've been wondering. Would Airbus have a slight advantage over Boeing going into negotiations with airlines that also commit to the CSeries? I imagine it to be somewhat cheaper, with regards to engine selection and maintenance, to have the GTF powered NEOs operate alongside the CSeries than if they were to operate them with the CFM powered MAX. I think it is a very good selling point for Airbus and Pratt & Whitney if airlines commit to the CSeries and the pressure would be on Boeing to be a little more aggressive in terms of pricing to win the order.
Also since the CSeries cockpit adopts the sidestick controls, would it be of benefit to the pilots and the airlines with regards to training time/costs and fleet crew management?

I agree with you on the first part, but I don't think it would reduce training costs. The cockpit and aircraft controlls will differ to much.

A very nice read on the noise reduction by GTF technology. A lot of great info. Noisy Neighbors? NOT WITH GAME CHANGING AIRCRAFT AND ENGINE TECHNOLOGY- The Pratt & Whitney PW1524G geared turbofan engine used on the CS100 is 15-20 decibels quieter than the engines on competing 110 seat class aircraft in production today. - Decibel scale is logarithmic. Noise doubles every 10 decibels. So a 20 decibel reduction = 1/4 the noise. - If you have a television set with numeric noise levels, try this – put the noise up to 20 on the scale, then reduce it to 10, then reduce it to 5. (Try the experiment playing a jet engine sound ) Or you can try this awesome simulation by Bombardier. - Airports would love to be able to keep noise levels outside the airport below 70dBA, which is about the noise level for a twin engine plane flying at 1,000 feet overhead, but lower than that of a passing diesel truck and about equivalent to a city bus on your street. - Article also looks at the conditional CSeries order by Porter for use at Toronto's Billy Bishop Airport. - Because the new technology CSeries will be as quiet as the existing Q400 turboprops currently in use, it could change the potential route structure for the airport, enabling more convenient business trips to not only Montreal, Ottawa and cities in the Eastern US, but to more distant destinations, including Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Los Angeles. - Levels of noise measured at 5 measuring points in the city find that airport noise rarely rises above 70dBA at those downtown locations with current turboprop (and piston) aircraft operations at the field.
