Thank you for your excellent summary, s543 ! Another key issue is that BBD designed an aircraft family spanning two different markets (regional narrowbodies, which they wanted to keep or reclaim from Embraer, and mainline narrowbodies, which they wanted to take a share of). As a consequence, they are facing a wide array of competitors.

There is no doubt that the CSeries is London City Airport capable. The SSJ should soon be certified as well.
