I thought the improved A380 would be able to do the job.

I did not really want to start another thread and this one is the closest I found for the topic I would like to discuss. A few days ago there was a speculative thread on airliners.net about a possible A380 NEO www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/5961386/which left me wondering about the improvements done for the A380 since its intro into service. I would like to summarize those improvements and if memory serves me right, these are: 1. Landing gear weight reduction 2. MTOW increased 3. Wing twist changed all of which contributed to lowe fuel consumption (Emirates reports that their latest A380s consume around 700kg of fuel less (per hour) on LAX route than the early ones). Were there any other improvements? thanks;)

Will they increase the range? I think more than 9,000nm long? Is that on weight restrictions? Is this possible the A380NEO will able to fly more long-distance? DXB-SFO & DXB-IAH is still in consideration. Is A380-800NEO has more capabilities?

I think the A380 wouldn't even need a NEO, because it currently doesn't have a 'center wing tank'. There are pipes going in between the left and right wing tanks and to the tank in the horizontal stabilzer, but the center wing tank is only on 'standby'. I was told at my work experience at Airbus, that this tank would be used for A388F (not happening anymore) or an A389 (possibly happening by 2030). But if EK was to want a longer range, I think that they'd have the power to make Airbus building an A388 with center wing tank (just reminding that EK just ordered just tons of ultra long range B777X, therefore I don't really see why EK wanted to make the A380 ultra long range)

They 'only' ordered 35x 777-8 ULH aircraft.

How would A380-800R seat-km costs compare against A340-500, B777-200LR or B777-800 on the same route?

Were there any other improvements? Don't have the number in front of me but both engine manufactures have had incremental improvement on the engines since EIS, and will continue to do so. If I remember correctly RR announced last year that a few "bits and pieces" som the TrentXWB will be used in the Trent900 to improve it
