No no no, the light is not too good. It is green and a shade of orange: the indian flag. After they have accepted all of their 787's by 2023 they will re-negiotiate the delivery of this aircraft

Very odd. My attempt to respond to addasih did not seem to come out correctly.
To answer the question, the red and green are hold overs from nautical custom. Red is for Port (left), Green is for Starboard (right). If you look closely you will also notice the wingtip lights are similarly colour coded.
