btw LH also recently dropped the A380 from their service to NRT (which was their first regularly scheduled A380 destination ever, afaik)

btw LH also recently dropped the A380 from their service to NRT (which was their first regularly scheduled A380 destination ever, afaik) I found a good reason why NRT is dropped by AF and LH. They got Tokyo Haneda slots and switch operations away from NRT. Haneda so far is not allowing A380s and so they have to use 747s. "Lufthansa's share is decreasing as it moves its non-stop Narita services to Haneda. Lufthansa in summer 2013 operated a daily A380 Frankfurt-Narita service but will have to use a 747-400 for Frankfurt-Haneda as Haneda has restricted the A380 during daytime operations. The airport requires greater air traffic separation for the A380, which would impact Haneda's tight operating environment. Air France has also been impacted by the A380 restriction. It will end its Paris-Narita A380 service in favour of higher frequency at Haneda. I think I read somewhere on some news page today that Haneda is going to allow the A380...will we see LH, AF and EK reintroducing the A380?

I think even if HND ultimately allows the use of A380s at its gates, we won't see the return of the LH or AF planes to any of Tokyo's airports, it seems to me that these airlines (and others certainly?..) are interested in providing passengers with flights to both airports, but then have to some kind of divide the existing market (Germany/Tokyo, France/Tokyo for example) into both airports, hence not needing any large aircraft as the A380... Here we go for example, *NEW* LH now serves HND with a daily 744 from FRA and a daily 346 from MUC airlineroute.net/2013/12/18/lh-hnd-s14/and then leaving only one daily 744 to NRT airlineroute.net/2013/10/11/lh-s14update1/*NEW* AF now serves HND with 10 flights a week from CDG, that will end soon in a double daily (only 777s) airlineroute.net/2013/12/10/af-hnd-s14/and then to NRT, reduces from 2 daily to 1 daily, with no A380 anymore... airlineroute.net/2014/01/07/af-s14update2/Fabien
