So far, the situation does not meet expectations. The only A380 operator, China Southern, is struggling wih a small fleet of five, and other Chinese carriers stay away from the aircraft.
One reason is that Chinese airlines find it difficult to attract premium traffic on international routes, while cheap fares prevail on domestic flights.
So, more time may be needed before A380s can be profitably operated in and from China. Forecasts are just that ... and need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Agree with Philidor, forecasts are just said..and the main reason is "Air China is there..",same old story..unfortunately CSN has 'set' a negative example now, so who dares to buy the whalejet in recent years..in other words, if you bought some, you cannot fly from PEK..
The fact is i believe that Air China at least needs 10-20 A380, look at the international routes they've got, from Beijing to Paris, New York, LAX etc, always full. If they use A380, very profitable, no doubt! It's very sad to see the political situation there, let's wait the management changing of the CAAC by 2014, hope there will be some good news then, and also Airbus is always trying very hard to persuade Air China to buy the A380.
One more thing..Fabrice said there is currently no plan for A380-900.

What would prevent in fact Air China to order the A380?...... Fabien

What would prevent in fact Air China to order the A380?...... Fabien For short, two reasons: 1) their special, long term good relationship with Boeing (including the executive's Boeing preference..) 2)CAAC (former Air China's) chairman's personal political war against CSN's No.1 ("you bought A380 but I never let you fly from Beijing..", and its Air China's home/market share..) In China, Air China is equivalent to CAAC to a certain extent...

Thanks merci Kevin!! Ok for the 1st reason (though according to wikipedia Air China has both Airbus and Boeing planes, in an (almost) equal number?...........), but actually the second reason could only tend help Air China order an A380?... Fabien

Thanks merci Kevin!! Ok for the 1st reason (though according to wikipedia Air China has both Airbus and Boeing planes, in an (almost) equal number?...........), but actually the second reason could only tend help Air China order an A380?... Fabien Yes they have almost equal number of A&B a/c, here i mean the VLA, they have ordered 747-8, it's jus like a continuation of their good relationship with Boeing, they operate 747 since 1980s if my memory is right.. For the second reason, probably most of us will agree with your thought, it could only tend to help CCA order the A380...but you know politics is always complicated, something is what we cannot understand (and it's ridiculous as well..), the two chairmen are political enemies, "You already have the A380s, which is something i cannot control, alright, what i can do now is, i never let you fly from PEK, i never let you make profits with the whalejet, thus you never wanna win over me in your political career.." He wants to suppress his competitors by using ugly political and powerful means, not buying the same a/c (A380) to have a fair competition..it's a fact in China, Air China has the absolute power..

So now we can only wish/dream that the chairman of CAAC was the ex-chairman of China Southern Airlines..... Fabien
