The point seems to be you need a factory coloured nacelle with coloured material, not a painted one. BA might be able to order their custom colour from the factory.

According to the All Things 787 blog, G-ZBJB has completed final assembly and is now just in the paint hangar.

I'm not sure if I understand you there, but IIRC BA's 787 frame was rolled off the assembly line with pale grey coloured engines. The blue was only recently painted.

I think what Airboche means is that the carbon fibre nacelles are made with pigment in them such that the nacelles are delivered to Boeing already in the correct colour for the airline. However, as we have seen with G-ZBJA's nacelles, this is not the case. Or what Airboche might be saying is that in order to avoid the fuel penalty issues it might be possible to get a blue nacelle from the factory where the pigment is added during the manufacturing process as opposed to painted on afterwards. Might allow the laminar flow regime to be retained. Whether this is possible however I do not know.

All due credit to AirlineFlyer. British Airways' first 787 registered as G-ZBJA She looks great! Any insiders know anything about the registration or is just them trying to write out 787 with letters. Most BA aircraft are registered with some kind of meaning for example: 747-400: | G-BNLA | Brand New Large Aircraft | | G-CIVA | IV is roman numerals for 4 | 767-300: | G-BNWA | Brand New Widebody Aircraft | 777-200: | G-ZZZA | ZZZ looks like 777 | | G-VIIA | VII is roman numerals for 7 | | G-YMMA | YMM means year 2000 (used for 777s delivered after Jan 00) | A380: | G-XLEA | eXtra Large European Aircraft |
I'm sure others also have meanings too. So can anyone think of anything better than "ZBJ" looks like 787 if you squint?

The J looks only slightly like 7. Why couldn't it have been ZBZ? My thoughts exactly! There is no aircraft registered G-ZBZA. Hmm, perhaps they will be using those later considering that BA has ordered more than 26 787s

I'm already thinking about what the A350 will get: G-XWB-? Airbus has F-WXWB on it's MSN001.

It would make sense, although I would never be surprised if BA were a little more cryptic!
