On the very last one (B-6549 Air China Airbus A330 PEK - DUS) it looks like the pitch elevator (Höhenruder) causes the contrails.

On the very last one (B-6549 Air China Airbus A330 PEK - DUS) it looks like the pitch elevator (Höhenruder) causes the contrails. Don't think so. The air is relative warmer (less than -50°C) the contrails are just smaller and emerge later. Where btw is Taliesin when you need him?

The contrails are still lined up right behind the engines. It's just that the vapour starts to condense behind at about the distance where the horizontal stabilisers are.

Ah, in this picture one can see that on the right hand wing, the 3rd flap track fairing (from the body) is longer than its corresponding counterpart on the left hand wing. I presume the RAT is housed in here (like the A380 but it's on the opposite wing here). Trying to find a picture of an A330 with the RAT deployed...

Of course they are normal contrails from the engines, but the picture was taken in a nice way to give this illusion on the first look. That's what i meant!
