What is that red mark on the body, just below the front door? Have we seen that on other frames before? As far as I know red color on cover is required when escape slide is not installed.

Actually it's orange, not red. That colour is used as a reminder whenever something has been temporarily installed (such as test equipment) and must be later removed . In this case, I think Peter is right, the orange panel probably signals that an escape slide is missing.

This is in the (empty) back end of a NASA 747 while the crew area is all the way up front. I took this picture a few years ago (but could not find it yesterday )
