Thanks philidor I wasn't aware of this. Yes indeed. And like the A330, I presume they will eventually sort things out. Any idea how they will resolve the slot issue? You need a large hub met lots of connections passengers to operate the A380 from, otherwise it will end up like China Southern.

The last paragraph says it all: Skymark is ill-equiped to operate the A380 profitable from the start and should better delay entry into service. Is this what we are seeing now and is the cabin issue just a twist of the story? The constant delays of the A330 have been a warning signal. I wonder how much of Skymark's issues also apply to Qatar, with introduction of new aircraft at a new airport in a very competitive market.

Thanks 22wheeler for the article! Could it be that Skymark, as well as preferring some time to mature the long-haul aircraft operation, would like to change the configuration of the A380, maybe including an Eco Class after all?...

Again, we have heard that story from the day the BC order was announced ! BC was said to be a small budget airline which would try to pack many passengers into A380s and sell tickets at discount prices, they had no widebody experience, lacked a serious frequent flier programme and were doomed to fail ... except if they quickly cancelled that insane order !
The same was said about their A330 orders.
The truth is that Skymark wants to leave the ultra-competitive low-cost market and go for the duopolistic high-fare/high margins Japanese long haul market, taking market share from ANA and JL. Skymark has a lean cost structure, allowing them to match their competitors' prices while offering a premium product and an innovative layout (the first 100% premium economy A380 !). Having financial ties and a strong relationship with Japan's main tour operator, they can also be expected to introduce an innovative commercial policy. They are not targeting first tier Japanese companies, they target smaller businesses ...
I agree that their gambit is risky, but it has been carefully planned. Innovators always draw skepticism, but Skymark is far from doomed !

In this article they don't speak about other destinations than JFK and LHR/CDG but might others work?... LAX and other destinations in Asia?...
