I created this provisional thread to collect news about the planned A380-900. Feel free to post any new developments or discussions relating to the stretched variant. We can make an official one later once Airbus formally launches it.

Stretch version of A380 still far off, says Airbus chief John Leahy- Emirates has been pressing for the stretch but even its influential chief executive, Tim Clark, concedes there is little appetite for it at Airbus. - Mr Clark estimates a stretch version would give Emirates an extra 120 seats in three classes, taking the total passenger load to about 640. - "We've always talked about stretching it and eventually that will happen," Airbus chief operating officer John Leahy said this week, noting the manufacturer had a lot on its plate with the A320neo, three variants of the A350 and the A400m. "To stretch the 380 is down the ways a bit but it's still in the plan."

Which lengths would you define as A380-900?

I did not find the right thread so i started a new one. (please feel free to move or merge) Australian Business Taveler has an article that cought my attention: Airbus supersizes the A380 superjumboThe topic is about how to minimize the cost per seat. But see yourself....

As long as the -800 has several years of production in backlog, a stretch might cannibalise that backlog. From that point of view, launching the -900 now would be premature.
On the other hand, the group's financial situation has begun to improve, but not enough to allow more big investments.
Let's wait for a couple of years ...

This is a good thread title. I think we can merge this topic with the A380-900 (Unofficial Thread) and retain the " A380 future development" thread title as the -900 too relates to future development. What do you say, folks?

Leahy recently said on Flightglobal in different words that the -900 is only possible after other programs have moved to a more advanced stage of design. This still leaves the 11 abreast Economy version as a realistic option that has been offered to airlines already. Didn't Emirates say earlier this year they were considering dropping First Class for more capacity on aircraft to be delivered from 2017?
