Ouch wow I just read this online,...... Little saddened seeing this, could this only be a threat warning to EK?..... or real feeling?.... Could it deserve its own thread?.....

It is unfortunately the only logical and financially sound decision.
But as always we will see - it all depends on the EK I do believe there are some talks with other possible customers - maybe in China ?

That seems to be part of the negociation. Airbus is trying to call EK's supposed bluff, but it's a dangerous game.

Financial Times reports tonight that Airbus is trying to get China on board the A380 project, possibly by offering them a share in the production or other industrial partnership. If they buy A380s, that is. Fabrice Bregier is to discuss the topic this week during president Macron's state visit. The report doesn't detail the size of the muted Chinese involvement, although it mentions painting an cabin finishing centre. It surely will be a huge logistic puzzle to get major sections produced in China over to Europe or vice-versa. Let's see how this pans out.
I can't copy the report, as it is a payed story.

I doubt Airbus will let China buy A380 program though .... I think virtually everyone in western will against it and CSeries was a good example

If it was just a painting and finishing centre, as is the case with A330s, then the aircraft would be assembled in TLS and would fly to China on their own. China would gain some workload, but no major know-how. I hope something comes out of this proposal.

If Airbus would set up a finishing and painting center for the A380 in China, they couls close down the one in XFW, hardly enough to do for two.

Okay let's lay back and look at it again: 1. We have a certified, working, well accepted airplane covering the upper market 2. Air travel grows and keeps growing 3. Airports get overcrowded. Especially more and more in China 4. the only weak point of the A380 are it's engines. With latest generation engines it will be competitive against modern twins again 5. As most of the cost have been spent why not take that little extra money and beef her up for good? I can't believe that they would really throw away all those investments. 6. Strategically Airbus needs to compete in the upper size market in any case. So do they want to build their own 777? That won't be cheaper for sure?
