As explained by John Leahy at PAS13, the Doric agreement should tease airlines that do not operate the A380 thus far in doing so. I think Garuda Indonesia could very well opt for leasing through Doric in stead of buying if they decide on the A380 or 747-8I bij the end of the year. It saves them money and Garuda seems interested in a no-frills version that can easily be reconfigured from two to one class. For a leasing company that makes sense to, as it is more economical for them to have an aircraft that is no-frills either. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the aircraft that Doric plans to take will end up with Emirates of Singapore, which already have leasing agreements for a few of their A380's. I must admit that when leasing was mentioned I thought there had been previous instances. The planes were still listed for the airline, but were they actually owned by them? Are the number of customers for the current active frames, the same as the number of airlines operating them?

I just googled the Doric Order and didn't see anything new. Any current word on how these negotiations are going and whether or not the deal will be sealed by year's end?

Both Airbus and Doric recently said the deal should be firmed before the end of the year

Believe Doric's order was for 20 A/C (MOU) and that beginning in 2014 they will be building or selling 30 A/C. Just looked at the slide moments ago. Thanks for the heads up on this one. Going back to read Leahy's presentation - the master of world aircraft sales!!

When he signed the Doric MoU for 20 A380s last summer, Mr Lapidus said that they had been tempted to order 30 of them instead.
So, did Doric eventually decide to increase the size of their order - and did Airbus decide to leak the information in advance - or is it just an error in a presentation (I hope not !) ?

As an A380 fan, I would love to see the sale of 30 A/C instead of the 20 cited for Doric. Leahy will have passed on before his 20 year forecast of 1700+ VLA's comes to past (happens) - but he would be in his eighties - then - hope his heart "stints" last till then so he can point that *** ****** finger at his competitors in Seattle - and say "told you". Leahy loves telling Seattle they have their heads up their derrieres - look at his latest London presentation to the stockholders - he is constantly poking fun at Seattle and their claims - he is so good at doing that!! And he has performed so far beyond expectations since the late 80's!!! Who would have believed the kind of market share Airbus has garnered over the last few decades!!! Long way from selling General Aviation Aircraft stateside - Leahy has come a long way!! And he has earned it through sheer pluck, perserverance, and a belief that his Seattle competitors are evil....in my opinion. He has also provided continuity with all of the churning at the top of Airbus and EADs, again in my opinion!
