Very interesting, thank you a380fanclub ! We are informed that TK did negociate with MH to lease some of their A380s, but did not take them, but they are still in the market for A380s, though they haven't decided yet whether they'll take new ones or used ones. We also learn that SQ has not decided yet whether to return their five first A380s to the lessor, or extend the lease.
At last, something is going on in the A380 market !

I would guess that one of the major problems is very very costly reconfiguration to denser layout needed for potential customers.

What puzzles me: how are Dr. Peter and Doric connected to Amadeo? Amadeo was formed out of Doric in order to lease A380's, whereas Doric already has a portfolio of A380's. Here in The Netherlands we used to have a tv commercial for a toilet cleaner called WC Eend, saying: we from WC Eend (Duck) do recommend WC Eend. I have the same feeling on the Amadeo/Doric connection. I think SIA should decide whether refurbishing the oldest A380's is worth the investment, or that she must trade them in and go for 5 new A380's on option. Paying 125 million to bring 10 year old aircraft to new specifications seems unusual to me and a bit expensive

SQ is to take delivery of five new A380s from 2017. The main question is whether they want to grow their A380 fleet (= keep their old frames, add the new ones) or just renew it (= return the old frames to the lessor). If they don't want to grow, they must pay whatever is stated in their lease contract.
If however SQ asks for better lease terms, then I am sure the lessor will show a lot a flexibility. Protracted negociations are to be expected ...

What puzzles me: how are Dr. Peter and Doric connected to Amadeo? Pride or grudge are negative feelings in business. Your rival to-day may become your partner to-morrow, if it makes business sense.

Interesting article but this bit is wrong ? "The airline faces a $125m per plane refurbishment fee if they keep them in service." Its $125m for all five.

There is another serious error in this article : the refurbishment fee (or whatever they call the 25 million per airplane charge) is due if SQ returns the planes to the lessor, not if it keeps them in service. In the latter case, they do as they like.

So extend the lease, after negotiating a lower monthly fee, and only refurbish the interiors when SQ want to ?
