I didn't know where to put this but I suppose we can rename this thread to just football to keep it going. World soccer rocked by U.S., Swiss arrests of officials for graftThis is simply earth-shattering news to us football fans. Long overdue, and I thought it would never happen. I hope that this is start of FIFA's corruption scandals clean up.

Then canx the world cups in Russia and Qatar and re run the bids which were obviously fixed !

..... but I suppose we can rename this thread to just football to keep it going. Done Blatter still won't stand down / resign even though he said everyone has lost trust in FIFA and him ! I don't think he can hear, even his best mate Plattini ask him to stand down for the good of the game ! And he said no ! business first ? But it is a game !

I think that England will resign from FIFA if Blatter is re elected, then we can set up a rival competition for 2018 and hope some other countries join in ?

Going beyond the corruption allegations, FIFA under Blatter has been pretty much stagnated. It really needs a refreshed leadership to carry the sport forward.

What a farce the FIFA vote ! UK population 65Mil 1 vote, France Pop 67mil 1 vote, Germany pop 70mil 1 vote, Brazil pop 200mil 1 vote, Caymen Islands pop 80k 1 vote !!! Guess Blatter sorts out the small countries and hoovers up all their votes. 5% of world population can give you a 60% majority !! Fair game my arse !!!!

His resignation is certainly positive news. But given how the elections went, and that he won the presidency after all the firestorm, I'm a bit wary of whether the FIFA organisation will find the right replacement...
One of the changes I hope they bring to their governance is to put term limits on the presidency. I can't believe how one person could be allowed to rule the world's biggest sport for almost 2 decades.
Football isn't the only sport out there, however, that had such a long serving boss. Look how badly F1 racing has deteriorated under Bernie Ecclestone...
