Re MSN104 (not sure where comments on frames should be made, so I'll gladly move this post if I am told politely where to stick it!!)
I would have thought the frame would be the next one allocated to a customer. So, assuming 104 wasn't built, why didn't 115 become 104 etc. it would just mean that 104 was later than planned Deferring or canceling must surely relate to the end of the line, rather than dropping out in the middle.
No mirth please as I display my complete ignorance on this matter.

I suppose that Airbus has decided never to re-use any MSN, just to avoid confusing suppliers.

I'm sure there is a huge amount of (digital) paperwork and planning for every MSN and customer. As philidor mentioned, just to avoid confusion you have one defined Number for every MSN, so that you still know what you're talking about, even if it's cancelled.

Many thanks - What you say makes perfect sense, and flags my naivity. If a customer says we're due to have 104, but we don't want a frame now and want to reduce our order by 1, Airbus are hardly likely to juggle everything around just to keep the serial numbers in order. It probably all comes down to (metaphoric) paperwork. Oh for a paperless office (oh yes, it's already the era of the paperless office lol)
