airbus raises 2013 order target (reuters) In this story is one very exiting part: "Leahy said Airbus was working on a regional version of the A330 designed for shorter trips in high-density markets like Southeast Asia, mirroring plans for a similar regional version for the A350 first reported by Reuters last month. A decision on whether to develop the new A330 version is expected before the end of the year, Leahy said." "Standard" A330 with derated engines or maybe something more interresing???

If this is about offering a derated version, there is not much to develop ... I therefore hope that the project is to develop a truly new version.
Initially, the A330 was a medium range regional aircraft. These last few years, the trend has been to develop longer range versions. Can Airbus reverse the trend and develop a higher capacity shorter range improved version?

AINonline's information is interesting though somewhat disappointing. It seems to describe a paperwork variant, based on derated engines.
The exact meaning of phrases "network solution” and "at their cost base" is however unclear to me.

Airbus has announced/confirmed that they will offer a lower weight A330-300 for regional and domestic operations. Any info from Airbus when they expect to deliver the first "light- variant"?

The targeted 15% reduction in cost per seat is large enough to make a difference. It seems to be achieved through a lower operating weight and a cabin set-up allowing 400 passengers in 18 inches-wide seats.
The changes leading to the lighter weight, as well as the cabin set-up deserve a closer look.
Altogether, this new A330 persona seems extremely interesting.

Thank you for the link, XWB.
From that story : "Seating is increased in part by eliminating galley space that is unneeded on short flights".
This provides a first clue as to how the number of pax is increased to 400. I suppose that slim seats are another part of the answer.
