Thanks XWB, but I actually meant the max number of pax the frame is certified for (evacuation limit so to speak).
Like the eight hundred something number for the A380-800.

Indeed. Four exit doors * 110 pax per door = 440 pax max.

Most importantly, according to AW, the A330 will get cockpit technology from the A350. So, A330 availablity increasingly is used to spur A350 sales. A clever sales strategy, in my opinion.

This provides a first clue as to how the number of pax is increased to 400. I suppose that slim seats are another part of the answer. Thomas Cook Scandinavia already have ~400 seats in their A333s

Yes, but I think Cebu (I don't know about Thomas Cook) has a nine-abreast cabin, while the newly proposed 'regional' cabin seats 400 pax in an eight-abreast layout.

Although both Thomas Cook Scandinavia and Cebu Pacific have (at least in parts of the aircraft) 9 abreast seating, not the 18 inch seat width (of 8 abreast) that Airbus said would be possible in the 400 seat regional A330. Edit Philidor beat me to it, but Thomas Cook Scandinavia does have 9 abreast seating, but only in the forward section of the aircraft. The rear section is 8 abreast. se.airshoppen.com/vaelg-plads-ombord.aspx?aircraftType=A333#seating
