Nice to hear of the formal launch. It's a relatively straightforward exercise I think considering how the fuselage and the cockpit are structurally similar to the A300, not too much engineering effort need to be diverted from other projects. Wonder what engines it will be powered by... They say that the new and old will be used in parallel for sometime until the old ones are phased out. Can the loading centres accommodate the two different sizes or will they have to re-dimension them?  |

I just wonder how they will live with only 5 new Belugas when the old ones go away.
I understand that due to legal reasons it is impossible to build more, but ?

Five is enough. The A330 Beluga is also bigger than the current Beluga.

I just wonder how they will live with only 5 new Belugas when the old ones go away. The new Belugas are bigger and will be able to take 2 A350 wings unlike the current ones. But yes they're going to have to push them to its limits, since the A320 production will be higher than ever before, and to support the new A350 production as well as maintaining some A330 production. |

This was expected. It is a major strategic move by Airbus to both secure and boost aircraft production.

I'm curious, what type (A330-200 or A330-300) Airbus will taken for the new version from the Beluga?
A330-300 would be great :-)
I know that there was some rumors about the version a long time ago, but I can't remember me.

What legal reasons could possibly prevent Airbus to built any nmber they want / need ?? up to a number of 5 it is a kind of prototype/experimental aircraft, with lower requirements for certification, wheras from 6 aircraft and more from a specific type, it might be considered a kind of series production, which needs more paperwork, extra testing etc. |
