obviously limited knowledge by the author might lead to the impression that there will be lots of airlines starting A380 service soon: Quote: "With more and more airlines choosing the A380 as the aircraft of choice, travelers are seeing more options to fly with Airbus popping up all over the world."

Quote: "With more and more airlines choosing the A380 as the aircraft of choice, travelers are seeing more options to fly with Airbus popping up all over the world." That's how it should be, unfortunately not how it is.

After re-reading the quote above, the wording appears even more odd to me as before, because -as sad as it might be- so far, exactly ONE airline has made the A380 their "aircraft of choice".

Hm, I might agree with you as far as SQ is concerned, but while approx. 30% of EK's total aircraft are A380s, none of the other carriers have more than 10% in their fleet. Even if you just look at the widebody fleet, LH and BA have ordered 14 and 12 A380s while operating more than 100 widebody aircraft in total. LH even cancelled an order of three additional frames and MH apparently tried to sell theirs, so I still don't see the A380 as their dedicated "aircraft of choice".

It depends what you call 'aircraft of choice'. Obviously, it makes sense only if it means 'long range aircraft of choice'. We must also take into account the size of each airline's long range fleet.
I suggested MH because, after considering selling their A380s, they decided to keep them and to get rid of their older 777s. They are now so dependent on their A380s that they have a problem whenever one of them is in scheduled maintenance, and they had to return one 744 to service as A380 replacement.
I might have mentioned Thai airways, since the A380 plays a major role in their long-range network. I didn't for lack of information on their intentions.
BA's plans definitely include more A380s. They just want them cheaper and are in the market for used ones when available.
LH and KE are a different case. They use many types, the A380 being their flagship. That's why I wrote 'arguably'.
EDIT : this discussion is in the wrong thread !

Well my understanding was not the airline's but the passenger's ... Well, I agree with you: choice given, most passengers nowadays would definitely choose to fly an A380 over most other aircraft types. But the above quoted article indeed said: "...more and more airlines choosing the A380 as the aircraft of choice..."

I absolutely agree about the flagship role the A380 has taken over on most carriers operating the aircraft (often visible in advertising campaigns etc.). I understood the term "aircraft of choice" more in the meaning of "fleet backbone", which IMHO so far only applies to EK's A380s (and to a lesser degree SQ's). For example, in LH's case, I would argue that their "fleet backbone" is currently provided by A330/A340 family aircraft, and will be by a combination of A350s and B777-9 in the future.
