Currently an Emirates Dubai to JFK flight (UAE203) and a Korean Seoul to JFK (KAL81)are heading westwards, probably to Toronto presumably because of snow problems at JFK. Other planes are still landing, a 777 and a A330 for example. Two questions? Why are the 380's diverted and what is the nearest alternate to JFK able to take a 380. Presumably all other north east US airports are also snow bound but Toronto seems a long way to go?? JT

Just a guess here but maybe at the time the runway(s) and/or taxiway(s) planned for A380 operation were closed?

Two other 380's have just landed at JFK and UAE is back in the air from Toronto heading there. I think KAL81 is being deiced prior to take off. I guess taxiways might have been the reason. Ground operators must still be twitchy after the BA 747 fiasco........
