Why train in Chateauroux, aren't there any side-airports to train in the UK?..... This must cost BAW a lot?

I know the airport is large and has a lot of unused space. It is therefore often used for training/trials. There must be other available facilities in the UK, but Châteauroux must be extremely competitive.

G-XLEH is again in Chateauroux this morning; may be it did not go back to LHR yesterday, I am not sure as I did not check fr24.com/BAW9160

I can give you the answer about training in CHR. The initial crew training took place in Manston and CHR, they did some follow up training in DUR a few months later and it seems they are back to CHR.
The key features are getting an airport that can handle an A380, that is quiet enough to allow training flights and crucially has the weather to allow the training to take place. Its no good if you get aircraft time schedule the crew and mechanics and then find it all has to be cancelled because the weather is not good enough for the training to take place
