After two days without any games I'm looking forward to the first quarter finals today I missed the second half of the Germany/France game. Germany looked better than in their last game. Lahm is much better back in his old position and the mid-field looked more sharper too with Khedira and Schweinsteiger starting. But, I think they've got a lot to improve if they're to win the cup and I'm still rooting for them. A consistent side with a record 4th straight semi-final surely deserves it. Brazil/Columbia game featured some of the worst refereeing in the tournament so far. Bad calls and fouls for and against both sides. Sets up a rematch of the 2002 final, Germany vs Brazil. Update: Big blow to Brazil - Neymar is out for the rest of the tournament with fractured vertebra. Even if I'm rooting for Germany, it's pretty sad to see him out and I hope he recovers soon. A great player to watch.

A nerve-racking game between Netherlands and Costa Rica. It would been very unfortunate if the Dutch didn't make it through for all their efforts - very narrow misses. Costa Rica were aiming for the lottery game from the start and never deserved a semi-final spot with just a single (!!!) shot on target for the entire 120 mins of play! I was really impressed by the Dutch sub goalie's PK specialising. He predicted the correct side for all 5 kicks. Very smart team training. We're in for a couple of cracking semi-final games. My dream final would be a Germany vs. Netherlands game and I wouldn't care who wins it.

There's something with this World Cup that's missing, and the lack of this is bugging me. There's no psychic animal to determine the fates of everyone in the semifinals!

There have been quite a few animals this World Cup too if you search. But they haven't made too many headlines as their predictions weren't really spot on, like Paul the Octopus. On today's match, nobody, even the German players themselves, expected such a lop-sided finish. I'm happy Germany won. But it felt cruel to see a great footballing nation like Brazil being humiliated like this, and on their home soil too. They were simply overwhelmed by the psychological pressure and expectations more than anything else, and it was not the lack of talent. It was absurd to see some of the players shed tears right after going down 2-0, which they could have come back from considering how Ghana, USA, Algeria and France all gave Germany a tough time. They simply gave up after the first goal. It was also wonderful to see the German side show sympathy to the Brazilians after the match and not gloat. They were class acts.

I haven't expected such a result. As I am currently in Korea watching another world cup, I had to wake up at 5am to watch the BRA-GER match, but it definetely was worthwhile.

Nope, this year there is only Caz Caz is a meerkat who has predicted the Netherlands to win all their matches. Today is a bit of a problem, Caz was the only one to choose the Dutch flag, all his mates selected the Argentinian flag..... Attachments:
