How long could we expect between the EASA's decision and the subsequent FAA's decision?... (I assume both are required for the A359 to operate commercially?...)

Can't be that long. Maybe a month? Esentially they seem to accept their buddies decision (and vice versa with FAA /EASA in the US).

The FAA should follow immediately, they normally follow the EASA (and vice versa).
The FAA is only required for flights to the US.

According to Wikipedia the A380-841 received both FAA and EASA type certificate on the same day. For the -861 it only states a later date, but not whether it was at a joint ceremony again.
