It is the problem with too low positioned wing and there is no space for the engine. The probelm was already with the NG - look how the engines had to be "flatted" on the bottom to fit. With even the larger engines it is even worse on the newer generation. If the wing is to low ? You could make the undercarriage legs longer ? Or go for the VFW-614 option and put the engine on top of the wing ?

Or go for the VFW-614 option and put the engine on top of the wing ? Yes, the wing is too low. Remember the original 737-100 and -200s had tiny little turbojets and even the 'classic' 737s (the -300 to -500) needed flattened engines. For a while, Boeing considered a longer nose landing gear with a nose blister similar to the A330F however this plan was dropped. The problem with making the main landing gear longer is they'll have to move things to accommodate the longer gear when retracted which will increase costs for Boeing as well as development times and reduce commonality for current 737 operators.

There isn't a lot of wiggle room left to make the MLG longer anyways.

The 748f isn't dead yet!, Volga-Dnepr signs MoU for 20 747-8Fs! If firmed, it will probably be the most significant order at this year's show, as it will keep the 747 program running for a few more years
