Very fortunate that everyone managed to get out safely. And I'm not sure if it would have made it back to land safely if it happened a minute later when airborne. I was thinking the same thing. Granted, the fire would have had a slightly harder time with 500km/h winds, but that damage looks substantial. It's also interesting to note that most of the fire damage is on the wing and wing box area, while the engine looks relatively intact.

Do not forget that this area is full of fuel. The whole ending is unbelievably GOOD.

Mostly fuel fire damage, very likely caused by high energy shrapnel puncturing the main fuel tanks. It is quite possible that structure could have given way at some point if airborne, keeping in mind that this level of damage was only the result of a few minutes of burning. Could have even exploded if the leaks resulted in a fuel-air vapour mix... *shudders*.

Well, we don't know anything about that aircraft Mr Anderson says DL intends to purchase.
- Is it a 777A or a 777E - (if it was the latter, I think Mr Anderson would have said so). - Does DL intend to use the aircraft for commercial service, or to part it out ? - Are engines included in the deal ? If they are, what is their potential ? - How far is the next heavy check ? - Must the cabin be entirely re-fitted ? - What overall additional cost would DL incur before flying it ?
