It replaced the A300/A310 that used to operate IKA-GOT (and IKA-ARN) that due to issues with fuel in Sweden had to make a stop on the return flight to Iran

That's an interesting route. Does anyone know why they fly to a non-capital secondary airport in Sweden? Because there is a large Iranian population in Gøteborg and around it, also that airport (GOT) could serve Iranians who live in Norway. But the real reason to put the A330-200s on those Swedish routes is that jet fuel suppliers in Sweden (the contractors) are British and they don't sell jet fuel to Iranian Airliners due to secondary U.S. sanctions. S legacy A300/A310 that formerly served those routes should have made a stop in a 3rd country (usually eastern EU) to refuel on its way back to Iran. A330 on the other hand due to its significantly longer distance capability, could tank up in Tehran and do the round trip without the need to refuel at all. That cuts the costs significantly for IranAir on those routes. PS: A330-200 also operates Stockholm flights from THR. Hope it helped.
