it looks as though this one has received a special livery. it looks odd though, the fuselage fairing looks similar to when cars are being repainted and they just wet-sanded the primer. looks very weird
with the aid of a better picture. there is definitely nothing special about that livery. it does cause one to wonder what happened. it looked as though it was simply removed from the paint booth at the end of a shift, while still undergoing preparation for paint

To me it looks as if they've painted the aircraft in the standard livery but then decided to either strip it or paint over certain parts. The nose cone is painted as it would be on the standard livery and you can see remnants of the grey belly on the fuselage although a lot has been removed/not completed as can be seen with part of the yellow primer visible underneath.
Then there's the tail and winglets, on the left winglet, it appears to be some sort of tape so I'd assume that'll be the same on the tail as well.

Why would they tape off the tail and winglets? Air China special colors B-1083 has those with standard logo, just like all other specials in the past. The only exception is sometimes the registration being moved from the aft door to the tail. We will have to wait untill it emerges from paint again (if it does).

I agree with Peter somehow, probably this frame will move to any other airline.

I agree that it's unlikely to be a special livery but I'm sitting on the fence as to whether I think it has been rejected by CA.
What interests me is why didn't they remove all of the paint from the fuselage? It looks like a rather rushed job given they also didn't fully remove the Chinese characters of the airline's name since there appears to be a covering on that as well.

Another possibility is a late livery change request by Air China. As the normal livery is almost entirely white, the aircraft might have been rolled-out all-white before being re-painted.
