Boeing to halt 737 production in January By Jon Hemmerdinger, Boston16 December 2019 www.flightglobal.com/aerospace/boeing-to-halt-737-production-in-january/135807.articleBoeing confirms it will suspend 737 production in January, a move that comes 10 months after the aircraft’s grounding and that signal significantly-broader fallout from a crisis that has already hammered Boeing. How long the company will halt production remains unknown, as does the duration of the grounding...“This decision is driven by a number of factors, including the extension of certification into 2020, the uncertainty about the timing and conditions of return-to-service and global training approvals, and the importance of ensuring that we can prioritise the delivery of stored aircraft,” Boeing says...Boeing now has about 400 737 Max in storage...But he questioned how much money Boeing would save by stopping the production lines, noting Boeing’s contracts with many suppliers require the company provide nine-months of notice for rate changes. In other words, Boeing may still need to keep taking 737 supplies, letting them pile up until production resumes. “In the investment community this would come across as a surprise,” Epstein said. “This is seen as… the nuclear option, [an indication] that something really must be wrong.”

Well, they said it for a few days, not even months. Well, maybe months, but by the fall so sure. The end of the year is the deadline, we promise. And now they suspend production indefinitely. If it seems only to me one that the pile of problems have found was far greater than even the most pessimistic expectations?

Pressure tactics on the government ? Rather, a cautious move, and a sign that Boeing is probably in doubt about the timeline for return to service.

From the above, ' Boeing announced the decision late Monday. It said it won’t furlough employees at the 737 production plant “at this time.”' Pity, Airbus could have picked up the best employees for Mobile

This was written before the production stop decision but gives more detail about the financial difficulties with this. About The Boeing 737 MAX Production Halt Dec. 10, 2019 6:30 AM ET| Dhierin Bechai seekingalpha.com/article/4311520-boeing-737-max-production-haltSummary Possibility of production cut or halt already has been admitted by Boeing months ago. Boeing renewed and increased its revolving credit line agreements. Timeline remains challenging, though wording used by Boeing is too vague to draw conclusions on production cuts or a complete production stop.

I wonder if we are all way past a software change, perhaps its a hardware change that is needed as well to get it certified everywhere... Well my guess is we will see SIGNIFICANT hardware changes - at least to solve the "huge force in the tiny wheel" with steel cables - no software can move it. Maybe FAA would ignore it but I am sure EASA, CAA and others will not. This was one of the published demands of EASA and maybe now with acceptance of JATR it comes as FAA requirement too and it has no simple solution.

Airbus did just recently buy some sort of robotics company in the Seattle area. Might as well built a FAL... 🤓

I think they have wait the FAA is approval. It will changes MAX design. They still have to do review. It won't wait long. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
