Or maybe the conversion will be done in Mexico? That's not too far from SBD I mean they could, but I doubt IAI would really do their prototyping conversion in a contracting MRO (Mexicana hanger in MEX) though, especially for this future crown jewel project given most of their engineering is back in Israel. Hi peter and ca350,
Unfortunately, Mexicana MRO is not certified for Boeing 777 passenger to freighter conversions.

That conversion isn't approved by Boeing?? Technically the conversions do not need to be approved by OEMs, but rather FAA/EASA.

Eastern Ailines (USA) has acquired 35 B777s for eventual conversion into full P2F freighters, at first they will operate with cargo on the main deck, but with NO cargo door conversion. Quote CH Aviation - "Eastern Airlines (2D, Miami Int'l) says it has secured B777 feedstock in preparation for its entry into the cargo
market - the express package shipment sector specifically. In a statement, the passenger carrier said it has acquired thirty-five B777s which it will convert into true, Class-E maindeck freighters that will be capable of carrying a full load of volumetric express cargo non-stop between Asia and the United States. However, Eastern Express Freighters will not be subject to the restrictions on cargo commodities that are imposed on conventional passenger aircraft used as freighters - preighters" Full Article - www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/107428-uss-eastern-airlines-to-enter-cargo-market-with-p2f-b777s

But I think it should be fine to keep this topic in this thread as it does require some sort of modifications to allow express cargos to be on main deck.

Here is a company never having converted a passenger frame to freighter projecting time lines that are not reasonable. We can expect the first delivery of a conversion of a 777-300ER by IAI end of 2022 beginning of 2023. Eastern Airlines could hardly be faster. The minimum option of converting 777 passengers frames by only removing seats and installing smoke curtains and loading by hand would be possible time wise. Even the option of keeping the normal doors but converting the main floor to move small units, pallets or containers, do not sound very realistic, needing an STC. I can even imagine a few frames, but 35?

I know they are not going to be proper P2Fs at first, but the article says that the plan is to add the main deck cargo door etc later on.
