A very interesting story about the GEnx engine is released in Flightglobal. www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/analysis-genx-misses-fuel-burn-spec-on-787-but-on-upgrade-403937/According to this piece, the engine initially missed its intended specs by a wider margin than was then thought (up to 5%). After the latest (and last intended) PIP, performance meets guarantees but is still more than 1% off-specs. The engine will be improved in time ... Also, a higher-thrust version is being tested to improve the 787J high/hot performance.

Well the RR Trent 1000 also missed its target by 4-5%. The latest PIP brings fuel burn within 1% of the original spec, but there is still a lot of work to do.

I wonder what the TRENT TEN numbers will be ... Will it meet or even exceed initial specs ? If that was the case, I am sure GE would have to move again.

I recall reading Trent TEN will be 1% better than the original spec. IMO GE will have to introduce a third PIP.

That is reasonable user for the heavy plane.

I agree with s543. Government planes do not fly very often, and a good price probably outweighs extra operation costs.

As I read in A.net, it wasn't a good price, $120 million. As comparison the remaining early one, Boeing trying to sell them for around $100 million and this is for airlines version not VIP with no outfit. If this is true I don't consider it a good price.

I meant a good price for the airframe, which is not the larger part of the tab. With government airplanes/business jets, the expensive part is outfitting/special configuration, and there is no way this can be highly discounted.

What I gave was only the airframe price not including the outfitting price
