Two questions:
1) Why is the glitch specific to the 787? 2) and why is it affecting only Chinese 787s?

Two questions: 1) Why is the glitch specific to the 787? 2) and why is it affecting only Chinese 787s? The issue is by no means 787-specific, nor is it China-specific. Why adequate steps weren't taken earlier seems to be the right question.

Not such a huge problem, in my opinion, just debris improperly left in airplanes. There is no reason for lumping that story together with the MAX and 787 groundings.

But you can connect it to news that Boeing is trying to get rid of quite a few quality inspectors. There is also FOD trouble with the KC-46. Debris left inside of airplanes can be deadly. edit: the same story from The Seattle times www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/claims-of-shoddy-production-draw-scrutiny-to-a-second-boeing-jet/quote Safety lapses at the North Charleston plant have drawn the scrutiny of airlines and regulators. Qatar Airways stopped accepting planes from the factory after manufacturing mishaps damaged jets and delayed deliveries. Workers have filed nearly a dozen whistleblower claims and safety complaints with federal regulators, describing issues like defective manufacturing, debris left on planes and pressure to not report violations. Others have sued Boeing, saying they were retaliated against for flagging manufacturing mistakes.I think it is rather coincident this stories are coming out now. Journalist have filed for the documents from the FAA and such a request always takes time. The FAA has been fining Boeing on the quiet.

I think all news are doing this now. Hmm ... That was to be expected, since you linked to the same article ...

There appears to be something fundamentally malaligned between the Boeing organizational culture and their historical technical field of specialty which requires a different ethos. They can still make money but cripes I'd not like to imagine that their specialist tech folk are screaming to be heard from thickly padded repositories from where no-one can hear them. Must be a horrible stress for the staff concerned if the whistleblowing is pointing that way. Tell me they haven't a nuclear plant-building division please!
