...but I suspect that a political deal was cut between France and Germany. That's the only reason. Consequently Air France get their A380s in Hamburg.

I believe the reason was/is that the A380 cannot take off from XFW fully loaded (i.e. fuel wise) to make it to South East Asia / China / Korea etc.? Could be wrong though... It is completly wrong The A380F needs a runway lengt of 2900m with the MTOW of 590t. That's why XFWs runway was prolonged from 2684 m to 3183m some years ago, see here binged.it/102CR0C

But then, LH gets theirs from Hamburg too, right? Sure - otherwise I couldn't have made shots of Air France's and Lufthansa's first deliveries

Is it middle east or just Emirates (beside Europe) would be my next question A very good question. Near East and Middle East mean different regions in English and German. I think this is the area ment ("naher Osten/near East"): from wikipedia
