Doubledecker also reminds me of The English Bus.

A380.boards.net is the better version.

We cannot decide to change without knowing what we are changing for. Members wanting to change the forum name should agree on a substitute first - then only should we vote to keep the existing name or go for the proposed new name.
The urge to change came very suddenly. There is however no urgency, and a period of discussion would be adequate.
Among the issues raised by a change of name is the following : the focus of our discussions has widened, so that, while the A380 is our main topic, we are also discussing many others. I therefore do not see the choice of a name as a simple matter.
I think that putting the issue to a vote was definitely premature, and I will not take part if we don't have a serious discussion first.

You are taking it seriously philidor. As FabienA380 said who ever use the old name will automatically redirect them to the new name. Also, as FabienA380 pointed out we used doubledecker because we were told by the old forum admin that the name was the reason the forum was shut down (even I personally have doubts about this theory). Changing the name will make our forum more easier to reach for new people who share the love of our beloved A380. Simple and easy, let's not complicate things as it live or death matter. That is my opinion at least.

The shorter the better IMO. I find it annoying to write up the long doubledecker name every time I log in from different computers.
Also, even though we've been discussing a broad range of aircraft, I have not seen any other forum that tracks the A380 production in the kind of detail we do. I think it is only fitting to use the A380.boards.net name. If you guys see a similar depth of coverage for the A350, maybe we can add that too to the name.
Edit: Do we have any Toulouse spotters who are members of this forum?

The two main reasons indeed to think about a name/URL change, would be ease (write, remember, search, ...) and researches on google that could help lead googlers to our forum... Having started from a380production back in 2009 at the time with the old forum, set by Oliver, it was reported indeed that its closure was because of its name, so it was in fact a little challenging setting the new forum to find it a name that didn't countain 'A380' but that could still refer to our old beloved friend the A380; I also had the feeling coming from different members, since the early begining of the new forum, that the name doubledecker wasn't that ideal and wasn't coming up in google researches... Of course, there is no emergency and the name/URL could well stay the same, this would only be meant to improve our forum's systems (ease, google researches), and I am glad many of us participate in the discussion here, many thanks!! The URL change with proboards wouldn't be free of charge but I would be glad to cover the small fee if we end up changing 'our' name... In fact about the A350 I had never thought that we could include the name A350 in the name/URL, though I think it might take us a little out of the way of the forum's main focus, the A380, and also while easying the URL it might easyit but also then lenghteningit too much as well?... any thoughts?... Fabien

Perhaps, we could try to clarify the legal issues first. I noticed that an A350 blog already exists, and we should not exaggerate these issues.
Would any "A380" name be challenged by either Airbus or the owner of the old forum ? As regards Airbus, would a letter to Mr Bregier, stating that we are just an enthusiasts' site and that we do not intend to become a commercial site, do the trick ?
As regards Olivier, I would not expect him to agree, but I am not sure it really matters ...

Fabien I agree with you 100%. I think we should stick with A380 name only. Maybe in the future we found A350 section growing to the potential to be as big as A380, we can then create their own board and link the two boards together. As Baroque mentioned, we don't have a lot of spotter in TLS as member of the forum.

If you search for A380 blog on google you will find this board easily. When I joined it was not that easy to find it. So the necessity for a different name was at the start, now the name is well established. I am not against a name change but I do not think it necessary.

If the name A380 is an issue, which I still doubt, we can always use something else close to it. Like... 380.boards.net A-380.boards.net 380jet.boards.net ...or even A3XX.boards.net, but this may lead some to think it is an adult site...
