Airlineroute reported Sep 4 that the A380 has been off the schedule to Boston. I checked and saw only 747, 777 and 787's going there in February/March 2017

I would imagine so. I know EK did a one-off kind of thing, only for there to be aircraft damage to occur.
As for following up on it, I kinda gave up hope on ORD getting A380 service much like I did with ATL, but that clearly changed.
