India has confirmed that it has selected the A330 as the platform for its new AWACS aircraft. Airbus better check first - if they have the funds - if they are not playing any tricks - talk to Boeing about initial deliveries of the first aircraft - how much compensation they want for just placing the order

I think this topic needs a separate thread titled "A330 AWACS". It is not an MRTT. I continue to be impressed by the A330's versatility. It is selling quite well as a passenger version (+ACJ), cargo (+P2F), MRTT, and now it will become an AWACS platform. Is there anything else left? I know EADS has one based on the CASA C-295 already but I believe this would be the first EADS/Airbus jet powered AWACS aircraft?

Rocket Launch Platform Well, Swiss Space Systems (S3), is planning on using the A330's ancestor, A300 for orbital launches of satellites and unmanned suborbital spaceships. Maybe someday in the future, the A330 will serve that purpose too! Swiss Company to Launch Robotic Mini-Shuttle in 2017 (First launch has been moved to 2018 as of late.)

Now, now Baroque. I'm sure you saw the 1st April 2103 date for this article! Woah! My bad, I didn't know I was somehow pulling in articles from almost 100 years in the future. Must be my quantum computer! S3 is said to be working with several partners on the project including ESA.
