apparently thai airways wants to report delivery of it's A350's till 2018...
is this possible? can a plane be reconfigured at this point to be delivered to another customer so far into the assembly process?

It is possible. Airbus will probably deliver the aircraft to the lessor, and then put it in storage.

Ah you mean the thai aircraft were not ordered directly from airbus but leased from a lessor?
