I'm surprised that Airbus managed to get these A330s delivered to a lessor. The first two will not enter revenue service until March 2016, this must cost BOC Aviation quite some money.

Order for 5 a330-300 from Air Asia X was transferred to BOC Aviation, when Air Asia X reduced order for a330 ceo from 51 to 31. Airline probably will get these frames, but not all from outstanding own a330 ceo order (11 frames).

I heard that 1646 and 1659 were sent by BOC to storage in Lourdes.

Today airbus annual results shows 11 a330ceo orders converted to a330 neo and 1 boc aviation a330 ceo order cancelled (allocated to Air AsiaX). December 2015 data confirms 4 a330 deliveries to Air Asia X (through BOC Aviation). That means no more a330 ceo deliveries to Air Asia X.

With no outstanding orders for the A330ceo, MSN 1712 looks to be a white tail. This seems indeed to be a result of Air Asia X converting its existing A330 orders to the -neo version. Yet, I notice from the same source that there also are Turkish Airlines and Iberia frames in the same paint scheme. Did these airlines change their orders, or I am seeing too much in this paint status ?

From the January 11th TLS Watch report linked to above :
1706 F-WWYD Turkish Airlines, primer/tail painted 1710 F-WWYT Iberia, primer/tail painted 1712 F-WWYX Air Asia X, primer’tail painted
6951 F-WWDP Batik Air, primer/tail painted 6962 F-WWBF Batik Air, primer/tail painted 6965 F-WW?? Virgin America, primer/tail painted – towed to paint hangar 6967 F-WW?? Indigo Airlines, primer/tail painted – towed from prod line to another hangar
I just noticed the paint status of the Air Asia X you pointed out to is quite common at present. If this status is related to the recent order conversion by Air Asia X, making the aircraft a white tail (or at least a NTU - 'not taken up'), does this also suggest changes to other frames sharing the same paint status, or is it meaningless ?
