Whilst no new tanks are installed, the aircraft will have a few of their existing tanks 'activated' which will require a bit more pluming over the standard -900 (At least that's my understanding). Unlike the A321LR, I don't think any additional plumbing is needed for the A350ULR, since there is no additional tank to connect to the engine (as I understand it, additional volume is activated in the wingbox tank).

As per the Airbus release and other sources, you still need to install plumbing, wiring, sensors and inerting systems into the additional wingbox space being turned into fuel reservoirs.

It's a lot than a 40 minute stopover ! You have to descend from 40k feet and land, taxi to gate. Get all the passengers off, then re fuel, then embark the passengers again, taxi, take off, climb back to 40k feet !

It is similar distance to SIN-JFK.... Perth-Europe, yes, but from SYD/MEL/BNE is it significant longer, and long enough that even a A350-900ULR isn't enough

Agree to both. It is 40-60 minutes on the ground i.e. total 1,5-2 hours longer time of the trip. But if the nonstop trip is close to 20 hours the difference is below 10%. I said similar distance.... (EU-Australia can be GLA-MEL and also ATH-PER so......) We all know that those ULR flights carry mostly-only premium seats i.e. much less weight and no CARGO. So the price is not "twice" it was only euphemism but more like "much-much" higher. Anyway once more not only mine but also Leeham's point is: Is it worthwhile ?"Normal" flight with stops must be flown anyway since most of the people travel in "Y" + some CARGO must be moved around. Again if the airline can find customers willing to pay (that on the end - when the dust settles - the airline has black numbers result) and if it is technically possible .... LET'S DO IT !

I thought there were a difference between the A350-900 and A350-1000 wing tanks and the A350-900LR would get the -1000 wing tanks.
