Do you mean A350 For the SP territory ? The A330 does not have the range ? If wikipedia/a.net is to be believed, the 747SP carries 276 passengers out to 6650nmi. From Airbus, the A330: -300 carries 277 pax out to 6350nmi -200 carries 247 pax out to 7250nmi -900neo carries 287 pax out to 6550nmi -800neo carries 257 pax out to 7500nmi So, I would say it is A330 territory.

Do we not think the B777s have longer range ? Yes it does. But for all intents and purposes, we can say that the 747SP and the A330 are comparable in terms of max range and passenger capacity.

Do we not think the B777s have longer range ? Is that before or after Boeing adjusted their numbers? I read 7,065 nm for the 777-200ER today.

Damn non-SI units! I always read "nanometers" at first sight... 7000nm is about the average size of a bacterium. Precisely why I prefer to write "nmi".

United has all 35 -1000s + 40 options. So it is indeed a question of whether a small sub-fleet of -900s make sense. I wonder if United are also looking at the 787-9. But seeing as how fellow Star Alliance member, SQ, skipped it in favour of the A359ULR to do the very same job, probably not...

Could this be a hint at a forthcoming order of the A350-900 (non-LR)?.....

Could this be a hint at a forthcoming order of the A350-900 (non-LR)?..... I am sure UA has conversion rights and has been pondering exercising them, or even adding A359 orders ... The ULR version however raises issues of its own, especially if the goal is to confront SQ directly on a ULH route.
