Still nothing from Airbus here, and consider all the politics, I'm not sure how "firm" it is yet It's pretty clear from the quote, they are in agreement, but still have to sign.

Like the Boeing deal, it is just an agreement.

The 380 really does not make any sense for them. I don't know whether it would have made sense for them or not, but I am sure it was almost impossible to finance an A380 purchase quickly. Traditional lessors stay away from the type, and A380 for Iran would have been one of the most challenging deals you could come up with.

I do not believe this to be a problem - it was written some time ago that some of the planes will be leased and some purchased and that the founds are available i.e. it is understood that to lease the A380 might be a problem but to buy it is easy. I do believe it was simply commercial decision - too many people at once

Believe me, it's a real problem. So far, only DORIC and AMEDEO have been able to finance A380s, and their complex financial scheme takes a lot of time to implement, even when the frame is operated by EK. It remains to be seen whether they would find investors to finance an IR A380. As regards borrowing money to buy A380s (assuming Iran Air would like to), I think it would be even more difficult since : - the borrower is seen as a special risk ; - the collateral you get is the aircraft, her market is small and her second-hand market value is unclear. Banks do not like to take such risks ; - as a result, the rates of interest would be too high.

Philidor not all the planes are leased or financed by bank loans - some are bought for cash !
During the first announcements - year back - was said that some of the planes will be paid for in cash....
Once again we will probably never know but still I do not believe the problem is the payment but the problem is the will to operate "the beast".
But.....
The problem with the financing is obvious - I do nor believe the problem is the sum but the nonexistent second-hand market. Here we are in complete agreement.
