No to so easy - you have about 28-30 less seats in Y i.e. if you have completely booked out flight you can not do that. That should be manageable. Airline staff is used to juggling with the consequences of overbooking, the same recipes could be used.

From an operation point of view it is better to have a few extra ULRs, and rather be a little short on LR's The ULRs can be used on any routes, while the LR are "limited" to the shorter routes No to so easy - you have about 28-30 less seats in Y i.e. if you have completely booked out flight you can not do that. They don't often get that sort of load factor, so some people just get bumped up, a class or two, and they may then book next time in a higher class, win win !

Yes, but you can schedule an ULR plane on a "LR route" in advance, which I'm sure they do. Then they don't sell more tickets than the aircraft can take

All is possible... but the point still is - if you use ULR plane on LR route you are not using all the possible resources - i.e. you do want to optimize. Looking at current deliveries it seems ... we do not see ULR frames - we see LR and "615" ones - i.e. it seems EK has currently enough of those and lack of the others.
